In western astrology, the four elements of fire, earth, water and air are very important. Their arrangement shows a structure and order in the zodiac, whose knowledge is important for our astrological understanding.
Chinese astrology elements
While in Western astrology we work with the four elements of fire, earth, water, and air, there are five elements in Chinese medicine and Chinese astrology: fire, earth, water, metal, and wood.
Elements: fire, earth, water and air
Fire stands for:
The spiritual, energy, enthusiasm, inspiration, joy of life, powerful appearance, realization, extreme impulsivity, careless, self-confident, drive-strong, dynamic, the choleric temperament.
Earth stands for:
The physical, concrete material affairs, structured, neat, practical, conservative, restrained, resistant, feasibility, the melancholy temperament.
Water stands for:
The emotional, formability, unstable, receptive, sensitive, sensitive, fruitful, emotional, sensitive, suggestive, thoughtful, introverted, confused, compassionate, the phlegmatic temperament.
Air stands for:
The spiritual, intellectual, analytical, mobile, unstable, creative, communicative, restless, freedom-loving, adventurous, the sanguine temperament.
ELEMENTS AND QUALITIES
In addition to the four elements, there are three qualities.
The cardinal quality gets things going, is proactive, active and powerful.
The fixed or fixed quality deepens the cardinal impulse, solidifies, secures and regulates.
The mobile quality distributes the cardinal / fixed impulse through information, is flexible, adaptable and adaptive.
We start from the 12 signs of the zodiac (star sign), which are each exactly 30 degrees in size and together form the 360 degrees of the zodiac. To understand the inner structure and structure of the zodiac exactly, we will divide it in different ways below.
Divisions of the zodiac
The number 12 can be divided without remainder by 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12.
Divided by 12 :
Each character is unique and unique in the zodiac.
Divided by 6 :
Each character faces exactly one character. The opposing signs complement each other, but form the exact opposite of the other. We call this aspect (180 degrees) opposition.
Divided by 4 :
We work with the four elements fire, water, earth, air.
In short, fire stands for energy, water for feelings, air for thoughts, and earth for implementation. Each three of the twelve characters belong to one element (see below).
The twelve signs (corresponding to the twelve months of the year) can be divided into the four quadrants (the four seasons).
Aries, bulls, twins correspond to the first quadrant, spring.
Cancer, Leo, Virgo correspond to the second quadrant, the summer.
Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius correspond to the third quadrant, autumn.
Capricorn, Aquarius, fish correspond to the fourth quadrant, the winter.
Divided by 3 :
We work with the three qualities: cardinal, fixed, mobile.
In short, the cardinal quality brings something in motion, the solid quality deepens that impulse and the agile quality distributes it.
Four characters each have one of these qualities. But there is only one character per element, which has a specific quality.
Elements and qualities
Divided by 2 :
We work by halving the zodiac.
The half of the day runs from Aries to Virgo, the night half from Libra to Pisces.
There are six male characters: Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius, Aquarius.
There are also six female characters: Taurus, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Pisces.
Increase of light: from Capricorn to Gemini, a decrease of light: from cancer to Sagittarius.
Divided by 1 :
The zodiac is one and indivisible.
Characters in the same element
Characters belonging to the same of the four elements can usually work well together. The same element requires a fundamentally similar way of dealing with things.
Since we have twelve zodiac signs, there are always three signs between those that belong to the same element. Thus, the angular distance is 120 degrees.
Fire: Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
Earth: Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
Air: Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
Water: Aries Taurus Gemini Cancer Leo Virgo Libra Scorpio Sagittarius Capricorn Aquarius Pisces
The sign with the respective element, which is first encountered in the zodiac, introduces this element into the zodiac (Aries the Fire, Taurus the Earth, Gemini the Air, Cancer the Water). The middle character of each element deepens the element. It has the clearest expression of each element (lion the fire, virgin the earth, scales the air, scorpion the water). The last sign of this element spiritualizes it in a certain way (Sagittarius – spiritual fire, Capricorn – spiritualized earth, Aquarius – spiritual air, fish – spiritualized water).
In each quality (cardinal, fixed, mobile), there is only one element each (see above). Thus, only one fire mark is fixed (lion), only one air sign movable (twins), only one earth mark cardinal, only one watermark stuck (scorpion). Each element occurs once in each of the three qualities.
Adjacent characters have very different energies and qualities. There are several reasons for that. In the zodiac, the so-called female and male signs alternate:
Aries + Taurus – Gemini + Cancer – Leo + Virgo – Libra + Scorpio – Sagittarius + Capricorn – Aquarius + Pisces -. (male +, female -).
Therefore, there is already a fundamentally opposite way to approach life.
The elements earth and water are considered female, the elements fire and air more masculine. Thus, zodiac signs are side by side, which belong to elements that are not directly compatible with each other.
Starting the order at Aries: Fire – Earth – Air – Water – Fire – Earth – Air – Water – Fire – Earth – Air – Water.
